Mizushima is a small uninhabited island off the coast of Shikigahama near the tip of Tsuruga Peninsula. Two small islands connected by a sandbar stretch out into the crystal clear sea.
Mizushima is uninhabited for only about two months, and during the bathing season from mid-July to the end of August, visitors can cross to the island daily by ferry. An additional fee is required for the ferry.
During the 10-minute boat ride to the island, you can see the sea change from dark blue to a beautiful emerald green.
The view of the beautiful blue ocean, which looks like a tropical island, is truly the Hawaii of Hokuriku. The beach, with its clear water quality and long, narrow stretches of white sand, is a popular swimming spot for families and couples.
It is about 500 meters long, and the island is lined with small trees. In summer, visitors can enjoy swimming, windsurfing, and scuba diving.
Many fish can be seen even in the shallows, and picking up beautiful seashells and playing on the shore is also recommended.
Especially from the western side of the island, you can see the entire island from Mt.
The white sandy beach in the beautiful clear sea is so beautiful that it is hard to believe that it is the Sea of Japan. It is known that Matsuo Basho once visited here and was so impressed by the beautiful beach around Mizushima that he wrote a haiku about it.
The extraordinary experience of going to a deserted island by boat is exciting for both adults and children. There are no beach houses or parasols, so be sure to bring lunch, drinks, and sun protection.
Visitors can cross to Mizushima by sightseeing boat during the bathing season. Sightseeing boats make round trips from Shikohama and Urasoko, but an additional fee is required.
For the protection of the scenery, only simple toilets are provided, and stores, water bikes, and barbecues are prohibited.
Since there are few shaded areas on the island, we recommend that you bring a beach parasol or other equipment.
There are no beach houses or convenience stores, so you will need to bring all your own drinks and lunch. It is also convenient to change into a bathing suit before boarding the boat.
Since there is a possibility of cutting your feet on the rocks or injuring yourself, it is a good idea to prepare marine shoes or similar items for your safety.
This is the perfect place for those who want to enjoy the beauty of the ocean in a relaxing atmosphere different from that of urban beaches. Why don’t you come and relax your body and soul in the beautiful ocean?
